Palm Springs has a hot desert climate on the floor of the Coachella Valley. At Palm Springs Regional Airport, the 1991-2020 reference averages range from a daily high of 69°F (21°C) in Dec to 109°F (43°C) in Jul. Monthly precipitation averages sum to 4.6 inches (117 mm) per year.
Winter and early spring are the prime season, with warm, sunny days and cool nights. Heat builds fast through May, and from June through September triple-digit highs are the norm, with extreme heat warnings possible. The summer monsoon occasionally pushes thunderstorms off the mountains that can send flash floods down canyons and washes. By late October the extreme heat breaks and comfortable weather returns.
