Singapore stays warm and humid year-round. The Northeast Monsoon runs December through early March and has a wetter early phase and a generally drier late phase. The Southwest Monsoon runs June through September. Thunderstorms and Sumatra squalls also occur during the inter-monsoon periods.
Thunderstorms are frequent in Singapore. Sumatra squalls are organized lines of thunderstorms that can bring gusty winds and heavy rain, often overnight or in the morning. Rainfall amounts vary from one event and location to another.
Local Planning Guide
Storms occur year-round. The early Northeast Monsoon is generally wetter, while Sumatra squalls occur during the Southwest Monsoon and inter-monsoon periods.
Storms build and move fast across the island and strait, so radar loops help time the narrow gaps between intense downpours.
