WeatherAI 2026.10.1: AI Next Hour Precipitation, AI Precipitation Alerts, and ProbSevere Storms on Radar
Our own AI forecasts your next hour of rain and snow and warns you before it arrives, radar shows which storms are about to turn severe, iPhone Duo support, atmospheric river and river crest forecasts, and more.
What's New
WeatherAI 2026.10.1 brings our own AI Next Hour Precipitation forecast, built from live radar, along with AI Precipitation Alerts that warn you before rain or snow arrives. Radar now shows which storms are most likely to turn severe with ProbSevere, and WeatherAI is ready for iPhone Duo.
Here's everything in this release.
AI Next Hour Precipitation
A new forecast for the next hour, built by our own AI model from live radar. Included with Standard or higher.
- How likely precipitation is and how heavy it will be over the next hour
- One plain sentence says when it starts, and it matches the timing of your precipitation alerts
- Start times are steadier from one update to the next
- Covers the contiguous U.S. and border areas
AI Precipitation Alerts
Get a heads up before rain or snow reaches you, timed by the same AI model behind the Next Hour forecast. Included with Standard or higher.
- Choose a 30 or 60 minute warning
- Alerts say when it is likely to start, for example "in about 15 minutes", and a quiet update can name the minute as it gets close
- Quiet follow ups when it is about to end, has stopped, or has come back
- Alerts overnight arrive silently, so they never wake you
- Covers the contiguous U.S. and border areas
ProbSevere Storms on Radar
See which storms are most likely to turn severe in the next hour. Included with Pro, and switched on from Map Layers.
- Each storm is outlined with its chance of becoming severe, with a ring for tornado risk and a bolt for a sudden jump in lightning
- Tap a storm for its hail, wind, and tornado chances, its trend, where it is heading, and a history chart
- A sortable list of every storm on the map, with where each one is relative to you
- Updates every couple of minutes
iPhone Duo Support
WeatherAI is ready for iPhone Duo, with optimizations throughout the app to make the most of the new device.
Atmospheric River Outlook
A new Home card for atmospheric rivers along the U.S. West Coast, British Columbia, and southeast Alaska.
- The storm's strength on the 1 to 5 scale, when it arrives, and what your own forecast says for that stretch
- A detail view with a moisture chart and what each level means
Storm Motion on Warnings
Severe warnings now show where the storm is heading, for example "Moving NNE at 18 mph".
- Arrows on the alert map
- The same line on severe warning Live Activities
A New Global Precipitation Map
The Global Precipitation layer on radar is now our own, built from NOAA satellite rain estimates and blended with ground radar across the U.S. and Europe.
- Sharper when you zoom in
- Smoother loops with evenly spaced frames and no gaps
Weather Alerts in More Countries
Official weather alerts now reach more countries outside the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe, whichever forecast source you use.
- On Home, in the alert list, in widgets, and with Siri, each naming the agency that issued it
- Where no alert service covers a place, the app no longer shows an all clear, and Siri tells you alerts aren't available there
River Crest Forecasts
U.S. river gauges, on the River & Buoy Conditions Home card, now show where the river is headed, not just where it is.
- The forecast crest and its flood category, with a badge on the map when things are expected to get worse
- A "Forecast to Flood" filter
- Star up to 25 gauges to keep them in a Watched section
- Ask chat about a river near you, like "is the Russian River going to flood?"
Aurora Viewing Conditions
Space Weather now tells you whether you can actually see the aurora tonight.
- When it gets dark enough, how much cloud is in the way, and how bright the moon is
- The Home sky and Space Weather now agree on where the aurora can be seen
Fewer False Alarms for Warnings
Tornado, severe thunderstorm, and other warnings now alert you only when you are in or near the area the National Weather Service actually drew, not anywhere in a county it touches.
- Applies to notifications, Home, widgets, Apple Watch, chat, and Live Activities
- Severe warning Live Activities now stay up until the whole warning ends, instead of disappearing when only part of it is cancelled
- Hurricane and tropical storm Live Activities are named for the actual warning and read "Until further notice"
WeatherAI Forecast Upgrades
A long list of accuracy work on the WeatherAI Forecast, applied automatically when it is your weather source.
- Snowfall amounts are fixed. They were far too low, especially outside the U.S.
- Daily highs are more accurate, and afternoon temperatures no longer run as cool
- Temperatures 7 to 10 days out outside the U.S. are fixed. Nights were reading several degrees too warm
- More accurate U.S. rain chances, for tomorrow and in the hourly forecast
- Short showers and the last hour of a rain event no longer disappear from the hourly forecast
- Each day now splits its precipitation into rain, snow, sleet, and mixed
- Day detail shows the day's real maximum and minimum visibility
- UV index fixes
Better National Weather Service Forecasts
More detail when the National Weather Service is your source.
- Hourly snowfall amounts now come straight from the NWS
- Each day shows its dew point range and strongest wind
- After midnight, today now includes tonight's rain chance and forecast
Alerts You Can Trust
The app no longer looks calm when it could not actually check.
- If an alert check fails or is incomplete, Home, the alert lists, and the hazard hubs say so instead of showing an all clear
- The Severe Weather Hub names your SPC risk level and now lists winter, flood, wind, marine, and fire warnings too
- The Tropical Weather Hub no longer shows all clear while loading, after a failure, or with a real wind risk
- Warnings that have not started yet stay listed with their start time
- U.S. alerts follow the National Weather Service's own priority order, so the most dangerous warning comes first, on the phone, the watch, and the Current Weather widget
A Forecast That Stays Put
- Refreshing keeps the place you picked instead of jumping back to your current location
- Pull to refresh always fetches fresh data, and the app refreshes when you come back to an old forecast
- With location off, the app reopens your last place or asks you to choose one
- A saved city's forecast is no longer swapped for your current location while you travel
Rain and Snow, Shown Honestly
- A day with no stated rain chance shows a blank instead of 0%
- Forecast lists hide chances under 20% unless rain is actually in the forecast, so a dry week stops showing a raindrop every day
- Wintry Mix is now its own condition instead of reading as Sleet
- The precipitation chart shows expected snowfall alongside the liquid total
Radar Improvements
- Tap the clock to shrink the playback controls to a small pill and see more of the map, then drag along it to scrub
- Tapping where several things overlap now groups them into alerts, storms, outlooks, aviation, and reports
- The first time you open Pro radar, it starts on the nearest working radar site, skipping any that are offline
- Light rain on the HRRR forecast map is no longer nearly invisible
- The bulk shear, STP, and helicity layers now show the correct data
- Cleaner precipitation type and satellite imagery
A More Realistic Sky
The animated Home background picked up more of the real sky.
- Twilight follows the sun's actual position, so long northern summer evenings and polar nights look right
- Stars fade in as it gets dark and dim under a full moon or behind clouds
- Snowflakes vary in shape and drift in the wind, and blizzards turn into a whiteout
- Wind direction matches the compass, and the sun and moon travel the right way in the Southern Hemisphere
Space Weather
- Sunspot imagery is current again, and solar animations no longer run behind the still image
- The Kp index, its color, and its storm level now match NOAA's scale exactly
- The X-ray, proton, and solar wind charts say when they are showing an older copy of the data
Notifications That Land Where They Should
- Tapping a warning reliably opens it, even right after launch or with another screen open
- Daily summary, sun, custom, and precipitation notifications open Home, and tsunami notifications open Tsunami Information
- Sun, daily summary, and custom notifications no longer arrive hours late with out of date times, for example after your phone was off overnight
- Custom notification rules show their condition, time, and place, and tell you if a change did not save, with a way to try again
Smarter AI Summaries and Chat
- Summaries now include the day's peak wind gust, not just the sustained wind
- Summaries after midnight no longer describe the present as "tonight"
- Forecast discussions in chat now work for Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa
- A reply that comes back empty now shows Retry and gives the message back to your allowance
General Improvements
- Save a Custom place next to Home and Work, with your own name for it
- Share cards for buoys, with every reading and the selected chart
- With Pro, Favorites show each place's real high and low for today
- Subscribers outside the U.S. and Canada now get air quality automatically, on the European air quality scale
- Airport forecasts say what kind of change each group is and when it applies
- Shared outlook maps name the day they cover and when they were issued
- Locked features now open the plan that unlocks them
- The AI summary card matches the rest of Home
Bug Fixes
- Tropical maps could get stuck on an old forecast cone for storms crossing the dateline, or keep a cone after a storm stopped being tropical
- Tropical notifications could announce a storm milestone days late, or announce a storm forming twice
- Major hurricanes were missing their Advisory and Discussion buttons
- Earthquakes reported by two networks at once never sent a notification
- Sun event notifications could show "Invalid Date" or pause for a week in late autumn
- Canadian alerts could disappear while a region was still under them
- Canadian, U.K., and European alerts, watches, red flag warnings, and earthquakes could vanish from the radar map after one failed request
- Pausing or stepping back in a radar loop no longer jumps to the newest frame when new data arrives
- Open-Meteo times were an hour off after a daylight saving change
- A missing air quality reading showed as "0 Good"
- Siri with no place named could answer for San Francisco
- Custom notification thresholds could change when opened in metric units
- The Home sky could freeze on one frame for hours
- Many other fixes
