WeatherAI 2026.07.1: National Forecast Discussion, Buoy Trends, and River Forecasts
The National Weather Service's own forecast discussions in the Severe Weather Hub, buoy trend charts with more readings, official NOAA river forecasts with flood-stage charts, richer space weather detail, and more.
What's New
WeatherAI 2026.07.1 brings the National Weather Service's own forecast discussions into the Severe Weather Hub, adds trend charts and more readings to buoys, and puts official NOAA river forecasts with flood-stage charts front and center. It also expands space weather detail, sharpens radar and lightning, and makes the on-device summaries smarter.
Here's everything in this release.
National Forecast Discussion (US)
The Severe Weather Hub now carries the National Weather Service's own forecaster text, straight from the source.
- Weather Prediction Center short-range (days 1 to 3) and extended (days 3 to 7) forecast discussions
- An SPC Public Severe Weather Outlook alert when one is issued ahead of a significant severe weather event
- A new Hurricane Local Statement with local impacts and recommended actions during a tropical storm or hurricane
Buoy Trends and More Detail
Buoy detail now shows how conditions are changing over time, with more readings than before.
- History charts for wind and gusts, wave height and period, pressure, and air and water temperature
- New dew point, average wave period, and a 3-hour pressure trend
- Wave height now includes the wave direction
River Forecasts and Charts (US)
River detail now shows the official NOAA river forecast alongside recent history.
- Forecast crest and the flooding impacts expected at each stage
- Stage and flow charts with flood-stage reference lines
- NOAA's live official flood category
- Filter the rivers list and map by flood stage
More Space Weather Detail
Space weather gains new readings and smoother charts.
- New NOAA Radio Blackout (R-scale) readings on the X-ray flux chart
- Exact flare magnitude, like X1.1, and a marker for the peak flare
- Faster, smoother X-ray and proton flux charts, plus an improved solar wind chart
Smarter Weather Summaries
On devices with Apple Intelligence, the on-device summaries are more accurate and to the point.
- Daily summaries describe the weather without unsolicited advice or invented consequences
- Clearer aviation (METAR) and severe-weather watch summaries
Radar Improvements
A round of refinements to how radar looks and plays.
- HRRR forecast layers now look sharper when zoomed in
- Fixed blank map areas that could appear after animating or scrubbing
- Satellite menus now list only the bands each satellite supports
- Storm-track markers update closer to real time
- Higher-resolution, smoother shared radar animations
Lightning Improvements
Lightning stays readable at every zoom level.
- Dense storm cores are thinned so the map stays readable, while isolated strikes are always kept
- Bolts scale down when zoomed out so they don't cover other layers
- Strikes stay filled in across longer radar animation loops
Clearer Weather Alerts
Finding the alerts that matter takes fewer taps.
- A filter menu for alert severities, and the ability to browse all European warnings
- Faster-loading alert overlays on radar
Wildfire Map Improvements (US)
Fire perimeters now behave better on the map.
- Fire perimeters follow your map filters and stay visible on their own
- Smoother refreshes, with markers that no longer blink
General Improvements
A collection of smaller refinements throughout the app.
- Minute-by-minute rain now covers most of Canada
- More consistent units and formatting, including snowfall in cm or inches and aviation temperatures in °C
- Choose whether your location marker appears on maps, with a separate control for radar
- Expanded in-app Help and FAQ, with new info buttons on rivers and buoys explaining each measurement
- Improvements to localization
Bug Fixes
- Wind direction arrows now point the way the wind is blowing, like a weather vane, with a smoother trend line
- Site elevation and aviation readings now display in the correct units
- More reliable Restore Purchases
- Share-card maps now render correctly across the date line and near the poles
- Honestly, many more bug fixes and performance improvements, too many to list here
