What's New

WeatherAI 2026.04.1 is our biggest update yet — introducing forecasts powered by WeatherAI, aviation weather overlays on radar, new HRRR severe weather layers, widget themes, expanded AI chat capabilities, and much more.

Here's everything in this release.

WeatherAI Forecast Preview

You can now switch your weather provider to WeatherAI for our own multi-model forecast. WeatherAI Forecast blends guidance from several traditional and AI weather models, weighting them by location, forecast range, and data availability, rather than showing you a single raw model run. AI models are one input alongside physics-based guidance, not a replacement for it, and how the blend performs varies by region, season, and lead time.

To try it out, head to Settings → Weather Source and select WeatherAI.

During the preview period, forecasts by WeatherAI are completely free as we gather feedback and continue improving the experience. At some point in the future, this will transition to a paid model — generating and maintaining this data isn't cheap for a one-person company. But for now, we'd love for you to give it a try. All feedback is welcome.

Improvements to Weather Reporting

With the introduction of WeatherAI forecasts, weather reporting has been expanded with more condition types you can report. Your reports directly help improve forecast accuracy, so we encourage you to submit reports whenever you can.

Aviation Weather on Radar

Pro users can now view three new aviation-focused overlays on the radar map:

• PIREPs (Pilot Reports) — View pilot reports as color-coded annotations on the map. Tap any report for full details including turbulence intensity, icing, flight level, and more.
• SIGMETs — Active SIGMETs are displayed as polygon overlays with detail views showing validity times and hazard information.
• Turbulence Forecasts — Turbulence forecast tiles with flight-level selection.

All three can be toggled on or off in the radar layer settings.

New HRRR Severe Weather and Smoke Layers

Four new HRRR forecast layers are now available for Pro users:

Three layers focused on severe weather:

• Storm-Relative Helicity (0-1km)
• Bulk Wind Shear (0-6km)
• Significant Tornado Parameter

And one layer for wildfire season:

• Near-Surface Smoke Concentration

These are especially useful heading into severe weather and wildfire season.

AI Chat Improvements

We've made several improvements to the chat experience:

• NWS area forecast discussions — Chat can now reference local forecast discussions for more detailed insights when you ask about why the weather is the way it is. You can also explicitly request them.
• Excessive rainfall risk maps — View the Weather Prediction Center's excessive rainfall forecasts on an interactive map with day navigation and a color-coded legend.
• Wildfire information — Ask about nearby wildfires and get details on active fires in your area.
• PIREP queries — Ask about nearby PIREPs for real-time reports of turbulence, icing, and other in-flight conditions.
• Regional availability notifications — Chat will now let you know when certain weather details may not be available for your country or region.

UK Custom Alert Notifications

You can now enable custom weather alert notifications for UK locations. This brings the same customizable alert system already available for US and Canadian locations to users in the United Kingdom.

Widget Themes

Your widgets just got a lot more personal. You can now customize widget backgrounds with new theme options:

• Dark, Light, Navy, Charcoal, and Match Weather (adapts to current conditions)

Configure themes in Settings → Widget Customization. Navy and Charcoal themes require a Pro subscription.

Expanded Sharing

You can now generate shareable cards for even more content:

• Earthquakes
• AI weather summaries
• Weather stories
• PIREPs
• SIGMETs

• Improved air quality detail views with pollutant information
• Improved local LLM responses
• Added more help content under Settings
• Added additional filters to the NIFS wildfires list and map view
• Improved speed of SPC convective outlook update notifications
